If there was a soundtrack to unicorn jelly, what songs would you include? Here are a couple of my picks:

White Rabbit, Jefferson Airplane
Veteran of the Psychic Wars, Blue Öyster Cult

Postby Mitsukara » Tue Feb 12, 2008 2:08 am

I remember listening to the various official versions of the Doctor Who themesong when I first read Unicorn Jelly, because I'd foundownloaded like every alternative version (air-length, full-length, minor unhearable variations for things like the five doctors, the unused "delaware" version, and so on.... I didn't do it the whole time I was reading though, that'd drive me crazy). Somehow this formed a permanent connection in my mind between the Sylvester McCoy era version (by Keff McCulloch... not the best version of the theme, but...) of the theme (since I've yet to see the show from around then, just that intro on youtube, it doesn't make Doctor Who spring to mind as easily) and UJ. Also there was a "horror" theme used as background music during the time of the sixth doctor in there, and I associate that with all the stormfall stuff now too.

I'm not sure what preexisting songs I could recommend scavenging to such a purpose otherwise though. The crystal palace theme from Paper Mario could suit certain parts well, though due to playing the game at the same time and letting it play for background music as I read, I long since associate that instead with the ending story arc from the AI Love You manga (which in retrospect is a little strange considering the nature of that storyline, and I'm sure there's better things it could fit, but eh). That song in the Lab of Life game (like the Pastel and Takozushi Kamishibais, I wonder; did Jennifer or Stephen compose some of this stuff?) kinda works for parts too.

But I can't think of vocal songs that seem to fit really well. I find that kind of thing harder to come by for some reason. Oddly enough I can't think of a Jpop song that seems to fit great either, at least off the top of my head.

How about some self made music?
It's easier as you think.
(hail & glory to modern Software!)

Here are some pieces I created (collage/clips) for my now stopped animation mice project , maybe it was intented to big, and now I have not the time...
(The music was for getting ideas and so)

(alone it makes no fun - it's different then making a comic)
A friend I asked to help me with the backgrounds said no, 1st it was her old computer, then 2nd she had no time, and 3rd she's workless..., and I mentioned she would get paid for it... well if she doesn't want...
But then, suddenly my own time was also limited, so, .... kismet...

hehehe, and now I'm making the DVD cover of other animated films (not by me), in different language versions, czech, slovakian, hungary, polish...+ deutsch...
(I'm living europe, ya' know?)

The link, in 14 days it's gone, 200 times download.

How about it? I love this music! (^^>

I just love these songs you've put together. I won't be listening to anything else for the next two days. You mentioned software... can you be specific on what particular software?

Thanks for the music. I'm going to have to make a CD of this stuff.

And again... (^^>

I've always been partial to this little ditty, and I believe Jen likes it too. That and Astro Boy's theme are two I recall when she was talking about soundtracks for Pastel.

I'm sure Jennifer did need years to collect all the music on her list.

It reminds me also to the years as I recorded
with a micro and a cassette recorder in front of the TV to get all the songs.
(Hey, I was about 8-12 at that time.)
I think I should buy an USB record-player,
I've got nearly 350 soundtrack LP's in my shelves,
and it's a damn long time ago I heard them.
(oh, that lovely scratches, and dust and and and...)

Hi marinschild,
Thank you.
I used the software Magix Music Maker.

Here's an english version.
Image

and some from the german amazon website
(I don't know how similar they are to the english / american software edition)
ImageImageImage
One version has also a keyboard, (I don't have this).
You need also some soundpool CD/DVD's there are a lot of music clips on it.
You can put clips together, but you can not generate a melody,
well, a keyboard could maybe help.

For MAC users, there is the "garage band".

While this doesn't fit the science fiction theme of hard science that goes with Jen's works, I like this song anyway.

And this is one that's a definite on my playlist:

Enjoy!

On the playlist, Jennifer wrote:64. Love Hina - Summer By The Sea (1:58)

Hmm. I have all the Love Hina MP3s I could find and I'm not sure what that is :dead: is it an odd slow version of Sakura Saku sung by different cast members, by any chance (it was in an episode, though I don't think it was 2 minutes long there)? If not... hmm. No clue what that is 8O

Since I have quite a fixation on it (all the subsequent music CDs were the best part of the Love Hina and Negima anime serieses! I love Ken Akamatsu's manga etcetcetccoughcough1000xbettercoughetc, but it sure is awesome to have a great soundtrack from it with the anime to thank), I'm curious... have you heard much of the various Love Hina music (or any of the Negima music)? If not, I really recommend "Ramune Iro No Natsu", "Smile Smile" (there's a much better full-length 3:30ish version of that... two of them actually... but all I could find was the 1:30 version from the Dreamcast game opening, though it has kind of neat animation in parts... too bad the smiles on Mutsumi and Naru look odd, and I have no idea who mystery girl #3 is. Similarly, there are no videos with "Ramune Iro No Natsu" up :(), "Egao No Mirai e" (that one was actually in an episode in shortened form... one of the two songs in episode 12, that weird filler one where Naru became a pop idol... one of many things that never happened in the manga because it was busy with the main storyline substance  Not that it wasn't a somewhat fun idea, but pretty non-sequiter), and from Negima, "Happy Material" . They don't have the same... sorta... technical whirry sound or quite as high-strung an energy as Sakura Saku does, but they're some of my favorite songs ever. ^.^

Bit wordy for a suggestion, mostly because I got off track a few times, but seriously, those are really good songs. ^.^

I'm pretty fond of most Sailor Moon music I've heard, too, and I notice some Katamari Damacy music and stuff in there. Most of what I've heard that's on that playlist, I like :dead:
