Jennifer, you are incredible. I registered just to say this. Every time I think I've got you pegged, you do something else that's brand new and amazing. Never stop!

That picture of the "set" is so evocative... and it gives me a distance from this story that I needed. I'm getting way too wound up in it!

Welcome, peachsynapse!

I am really happy everyone seems to like the Comicstar Interview concept. It grew out of thinking about the 'Outtakes' in Unicorn Jelly. It also grew out of a manga artist I like, Johji Manabe. He did things like Outlanders, Caravan Kid, and Capricorn.

Manabe has a kind of gimmick, one which I greatly admire. He has a stable of favorite character designs that he uses over and over in new roles - a tall, strong humanoid tiger, a superhuman female lead, a mysterious super-sexy woman, and so on. They get new names and new personalities, but it is obvious that they are the same character designs.

Now Manabe openly admits that this is because he is kind of limited in which characters he can draw well, and so works with these because he really likes them. He seems kind of embarrassed about his limitations, and even asks his readers to forgive him for not being more imaginative. In one interview, he jokingly said that he considered them almost like actors, which he was putting into the movies in his mind, which he drew as manga.

The second I read that, I thought to myself "Hey! Why should that be a joke? Even if a person could draw an infinite number of new characters, why not work with a favorite stable of well established designs? Why is that bad? It works for Hollywood. Rather than being an excuse for a lack of talent, why couldn't an artist just run with that and build on it proudly? I bet it could add a meta-story to every story! That would be awesome!"

As I have slowly developed as an artist myself, I decided that it might be interesting to put that thought into actual practice.

Just maybe, I might run with this notion. I just might pop the occasional UJ actor into other roles. It might be fun.

What do you think?

Oh - I intend to do interviews with the entire cast. Mostly the entire cast. You'll see...

I have to agree the with one armed man here. I personally can't wait to see what the other actors are like (especially Vola's actress). I'm also wondering what the actress who plays Kaye looks like without all that make-up.

Jennifer, I do hope you paid her well for the nude scene. While it can be a career enhancer short-term, in the long run it can limit an actress' career.

I thought that "nude uber-Kaye" would have looked a bit more like Rebecca Romijn as Mystique... ie. all teal and no "sexy details". It doesn't look like the H-Hold gave her any nipples, as they would hardly be neccesary for a Jellese human-impersonator.

Besides, a nude scene doesn't always derail an actor's career. Look at Chloe Sevigny, for example.

EDIT: okay, so maybe she wouldn't be teal after all...
EDIT AGAIN: and perhaps it would have other bits, if not nipples 8O

Off-topic, but, that "elite class sex worker" line was the first hint about Jellese status in Kaye's home splay, now that I think about it.

All I can think about is your negative view towards sex workers.

Plasman, as I recall the no nipples was originally like that because she didn't want to show them at first, though she has since in other works, not a limitation of the H-hold.
