"I captured a shapeshifter" is perfectly correct. He's got a gun pointed at Mickey. Mickey is his prisoner now. His captive.

"I have caught a shapeshifter" is also correct. However, I think most people would say "I caught a shapeshifter" instead. "I have caught" is a little more formal.

EDIT: "I uncovered a shapeshifter." "I have discovered a shapeshifter." There are many ways to say it.

I know this will not have a happy ending. One of the things that I am grateful with on the internet. Nearly every other format in popular media would have actually made it the H-hold's fault and had it fixed by giving Kaye a "fixed" H-hold designed just for her.

Forgetting, or not caring, about the implication they just basically brainwashed Kaye into being a "good guy".

My ponderings are more along the lines of http://pasteldefender.com/appendix%20a.html, a non-canon look at it. Kind of along the lines if Kaye's psychotic fighting is this way because she has a "Die Hard" H-hold, how different would this have been if she had been given her universe's version of "Friday the 13".
