Several other forums I know of allow Embedded videos, from youtube and other places...
Is there a chance we could do this here as well?

I figured this was ixnayed due to the spammerfools embedding pr0n0. The same as why the HTML is disabled.
That was my theory, anyway.

Doesn't matter. If anyone even looks at the thread, it loads one frame from the movie, which gives evidence to the spammer that it's a live forum and the 'bot has succeeded in infiltrating. That feedback allows them to apply selection pressures and thereby create more effective bots.

It seems so pointless to want to click a button to play instead of a link to play. And not everyone is on broadband, though I am, and a video would kill their load time.

Crazy idea, and maybe not really feasable as I know nothing of forum tech, but, what if there were some kind of filter in the forum? Like, don't embed the video directly so that it loads/displays the one frame for a person when they first view the thread; instead, the forum just displays an automated icon showing "There is a video here". Click it, and then it embeds the linked video for playback. Dialup users aren't troubled by it, the video doesn't get a hit from viewers if it's spam, and you don't have to see even one frame of rubbish that you don't want to.
Besides, spammers already get pictures through on a rare occasion, and those get hits too, y'know.

Rather like the way noscript blocks embedded videos from actually loading their windows in Firefox unless you click on them.
