In our household, Stephen is the gourmet chef. He studies the food channel. He buys books about the chemistry of cooking. He knows stuff the average person could not even fathom about making food.

When he tries a new project, he iteratively perfects it. Until it is perfect. Seriously... perfect.

After having long ago conquered Pesto and Pwned Pizza and totally teabagged Turkey In All Its Forms, not to mention literally manifesting the Platonic Ideal of Carrot Cake, he is currently just beginning his new quest... to make perfect Ramen.

I didn't get the food network until it was in syndication, sadly. I just love how not only does the show have all kinds of really cool cooking tips, but there's a silly little story that gets acted out through each episode. ^^

Stephen makes his own stock, last time was chicken, miso, and pork, seasoned with stuff like konbu and mirin and such.

The last bowl he tried making his own noodles, but they came out more like udon than ramen. It's going to be tricky to learn the 'noodle trick' of repeatedly folding dough and stretching it out to automagically make noodles. But he wants to learn.
